How did you get started?
I took a black & white film class my senior year of college and fell in love. I loved working with people and also having my own time in the darkroom. I asked for a DSLR for graduation and took a couple of additional photography and design classes after I graduated. I started shooting for myself, people began asking me to do portraits, and then second shooting at weddings, and my business took off from there!
I cannot stress the importance of learning from and shadowing professionals who you admire and respect- not only for their photographic skills, but also how they handle business and clients. This was pivotal to being successful full-time. The wedding photography business is about MUCH more than just shooting and editing. You are a CEO, running sales, marketing, client relations and customer service, finance, networking, handling logistics AND staying educated!
